Dharmagiri St. Joseph’s Wholistic Healing Centre is a rural Hospital, which belongs to congregation of Medical Sisters of St. Joseph. The Medical Sisters of St. Joseph (MSJ) is an Oriental Religious Congregation for women canonically ascribed to the Syro-Malabar Church. The Congregation of the Medical Sisters of St. Joseph is the fruit of the deep God experience and merciful love of our reverend founder father, Servant of God Msgr. Joseph C Panjikaren (1888-1949) towards the sick and suffering.
Way back in 1989, a dispensary was started at St Josephs Convent to serve the sick and poor of Valliyode and surrounding area. Later in the year 1991, Dharmagiri St. Joseph’s Wholistic Healing Centre was officially started in a new building, under the leadership of Sr. Dr. Betty Nina, MD, who has adopted a model of the wholistic healing approach (Healing through Body mind and spirit). The OP and IP functions started and the operations were smooth with the relentless efforts of MSJ sisters. As the number of patients grew up, more buildings and facilities were added in the hospital to meet the needs. Today the hospital has 25 inpatient beds to cater the needs of the sick people. The spiritual legacy left by Msgr. Joseph C Panjikaran is so strong that the administrators have nurtured it assiduously, constantly upgrading hospital facilities, always keeping the poor at heart.
Servant of God, Joseph C Panjikaran (1888-1949) was a historian, journalist, social activist and the founder of religious congregation of the ‘Medical Sisters of St. Joseph’ (Dharmagiri Sisters).Joseph C Panjikaran was born on 10th September 1888, in a noble family in the village of Uzhuva, near Cherthala in Alappuzha District, Kerala. He got graduated in history from St. Josephs College, Thiruchirappally and completed his post graduation from Madras University in 1913. Among the Syro – Malabar Christians in Kerala, he was the first person to receive a post graduate degree in any discipline. Joseph joined priesthood and got ordained as a priest in1918, for Catholic Diocese of Ernakulam. From 1921 he was the director of ‘The Propagation of Faith’ in the vicariate of Ernakulam and took great interest to preach the Good News of Jesus to the poor. He got involved in all kinds of social and development activities, healing and charitable works for them. It was always his concern to keep the poor and marginalized of society in focus and brings them to the mainstream. Whatever he did, he did selflessly for the greater glory of God and establishment of God’s kingdom. Humility and disobedience were the benchmarks of his personality and he was a man of integrity, vision and hope.
Love of God is the supreme gift of all other gifts. He desired the intensely to share God’s love with the least of the brethren. In the course of time he realized that the healing ministry is the best means of sharing the compassionate love of Christ. To translate his vision into a reality, he drew spiritual power and strength from the words of Jesus. “as long as you did it to the least of my brethren, you did it to me” (Mt. 25:40). An inner call, which was totally evangelical and divinely inspired, compelled him to serve the poor, the sick and the least with the merciful love of Christ. Our Congregation is the response of our beloved founder to his inner call. The glorious gift of bringing the poor, the sick and the least of the brethren to salvation and an experience of the Kingdom of God through healing ministry is the charism that we received from the founder.
“To touch the humanity with a compassionate heart and bring about wholeness”
“To contribute the best with generosity and joy as angels of consolation to facilitate healing and wholeness to humanity”

"As long as you did it to the least of my brethern you did it to me” (Mt. 25:40), is the inspirational force for us to reach out to our sick and suffering brethren. Medical Sisters of St. Joseph is a religious congregation founded by Servant of God, Msgr. Jospeh C. Panjikaran in Kerela in 1944, to reach out to the sick, to bring about healing and wholeness. "By our work they shall know our Master, and we shall continue our labour of service looking at the crucified master." was the instruction of our beloved founder. According to him medical mission is the gospel in action. He also told us to be angels of consolation among the sick humanity. We follow the footsteps of Jesus to become Angels of Consolation to the sick and suffering by our very presence and compassionate care. Our founder father envisioned to reach through the body to the soul and bring in total healing of the person

"As long as you did it to the least of my brethren, you did it to me." (Mt. 25:40). As our founder inspired from this words of Jesus Christ and started the healing ministry by establishing hospitals and other healthcare facilities, the MSJ sisters continuing this healing ministry by giving compassionate care to the poor and needy by means of hospitals. St.Joseph Hospital is one of the hospital of MSJ sisters who focus on the care of poor and marginalized of this area without discrimination of cast creed. Inspired by the great visionary our founder Msgr. Joseph C. Panjikaran, we are imbibed with missionary Zeal to achieve the noble objective of serving the suffering humanity inside and outside the hospital.
In this culture of consumerism we take all effort to stand firm in the practice of Christian values by providing ethical medical practices and selfless quality care in an affordable manner. We stand for the poor and middle class than the rich and privileged group in the society. We run the hospital not for profit but as a means to establish the kingdom of God that is, love compassion justice and peace in this materialistic world. By rendering service, we see Jesus in the suffering humanity.
